AI Is Not the Future. It Is the Present. And If You Are Not Using It, You Are Already Behind.

October 20, 2026

"The question is no longer whether AI will change your industry. It already has. The question is whether you are going to be someone who shaped that change or someone who was shaped by it."

I want to have an honest conversation about AI today, one that cuts through the noise on both sides of the debate. Not the breathless optimism that promises AI will do everything for you and you will never work hard again. And not the fear-based narrative that says AI is coming for your job and everything authentic is being destroyed. The truth, as it almost always is, lives somewhere in the middle and is far more actionable than either extreme.

What I know from integrating AI deeply into my own business and helping my clients do the same is this: AI is an extraordinary amplifier. It makes strong work stronger and fast workers faster. It does not, however, make shallow thinking deep or replace the need for genuine expertise and clear strategy. The entrepreneurs who are winning with AI are not the ones who handed their business over to a machine. They are the ones who learned to collaborate with it.

Where AI Is Creating the Most Measurable Impact for Entrepreneurs

Content creation and repurposing is the most obvious and widely adopted application, and for good reason. The ability to take a single idea, a podcast conversation, a keynote outline, a client framework, and expand it into a month of multi-platform content is genuinely transformative. I have covered this in earlier posts but the application continues to evolve. AI tools are now sophisticated enough to maintain a consistent brand voice, adapt content for different platform conventions, and identify the highest-performing angles from a body of work.

Research and preparation is the second area where AI has had an enormous impact on my own workflow. Before every panel I moderate, every keynote I give, and every strategy session I lead, I use AI to compress what would have been hours of preparation into focused, targeted research. I can ask an AI assistant to synthesize the latest thinking on a topic, identify tensions and debates within an industry, and generate the five questions most likely to move a sophisticated audience. That capability is worth more to me than almost any other tool I use.

Client-facing systems and communication is the third area, and it is where I see the most untapped potential. AI-powered email sequences, onboarding workflows, and response templates can dramatically improve the client experience without requiring more of your time. When a client receives a thoughtful, timely, well-written communication from your business, they do not care whether you wrote it yourself at midnight or whether a well-trained AI assisted in its creation. They care that they felt seen and supported.

The Mistakes I See Entrepreneurs Make with AI

  • Using AI to generate content without a clear brand voice framework first. AI is only as on-brand as the direction you give it. Without a detailed voice guide, the output is generic at best.
  • Treating AI as a replacement for thinking rather than a partner in thinking. The best AI-assisted work starts with your original insight and uses AI to develop, structure, and communicate it. AI-first, human-second produces content that feels hollow.
  • Ignoring the learning curve. AI tools require experimentation and iteration before they deliver their full value. The entrepreneurs who give up after three lackluster outputs are leaving the real benefit on the table.
  • Failing to disclose when disclosure is appropriate. Transparency with your audience about your creative process builds trust. Hiding AI use when your audience would reasonably want to know erodes it.

The AI Mindset That Changes Everything

The mindset that I have found most useful is thinking of AI as a remarkably capable intern with no inherent understanding of your specific context. Your intern can research, draft, organize, and iterate at extraordinary speed. But they need your direction, your judgment, and your approval on everything that goes out into the world with your name on it. When you manage AI like the tool it is rather than deferring to it like the authority it is not, the output quality rises dramatically and the risk drops to near zero.

We are living in a moment where learning to work with AI is as fundamental a business skill as learning to use email was twenty years ago. The entrepreneurs who invest in that learning now are building capabilities that will compound for the next decade. The ones who wait until it feels more comfortable are falling further behind with every passing month.
