Quarter in Review: What I Built, What I Learned, and What Is Next
September 15, 2026
"Reflection is not nostalgia. It is one of the most strategic things a business owner can do."
Every quarter I block time to sit with the truth of what the last ninety days actually looked like, not the highlight reel version I might share on social, but the unedited reality of what worked, what failed, what surprised me, and what I would do differently. I share this practice publicly because I believe the entrepreneurial journey is too often presented as a straight line upward, and that story does more harm than good to people who are in the messy, non-linear middle of building something real.
So here is my honest review of Q3. Not as performance. As practice.
The Wins Worth Celebrating
Simply Success with Philomena grew in audience, reach, and depth of community this quarter. The conversations I have had on that show continue to be some of the most nourishing professional experiences of my life. I am grateful every single time someone reaches out to say that an episode changed how they think about their work or their brand. That is the metric that matters most to me.
I moderated two panels this quarter that I am genuinely proud of. One was a high-stakes industry summit where I was given the latitude to ask the uncomfortable questions that the audience needed to hear answered. The other was a corporate event where I watched a room of executives leave with a perspective they did not have when they walked in. Both reminded me why I love this work.
The Challenges That Taught Me Something
I overcommitted in July. I said yes to opportunities that were genuinely exciting and discovered midway through the month that I had built a schedule that left no room for deep work or recovery. The output suffered. The relationships suffered a little too. I was present in body but stretched thin in focus, and I could feel it. The lesson I am taking forward: opportunity cost is real. Saying yes to the right thing requires having the discipline to say no to the merely good thing.
I also launched a new service offering this quarter and the rollout was messier than I would have liked. The offer was strong. The messaging was not clear enough. I have since refined both, but I lost time I would have rather invested in deeper client work. The lesson: even people who build brands for a living have to do the brand work on their own business. There is no shortcut, even when you know the process.
The Metrics That Actually Tell the Truth
- Quality of conversations: Am I consistently in dialogue with people who challenge and expand my thinking?
- Client transformation: Are the people and companies I work with measurably better positioned at the end of our engagement than at the beginning?
- Creative energy: Am I doing work that excites me, or am I grinding?
- Community growth: Is the Simply Success audience not just growing but deepening in engagement and connection?
- Alignment: Does my calendar reflect my actual priorities, or have I allowed urgency to override importance?
What Q4 Holds
I am entering Q4 with clearer boundaries, a refined service suite, and a deepened commitment to the work that only I can do. I am focused on expanding the Simply Success community, taking on a select number of high-impact brand strategy engagements, and continuing to show up on stages and in conversations that push me to think bigger.
